Fine tune the results following Gender Reassignment Surgery

Following Gender Reassignment Surgery, have you been left with visible scarring that you would like to visibly reduce and camouflage?

Gender Reassignment Surgery

Medical Grade pigments can be implanted into the scar area to blend it into the surrounding skin so the scarring is much less visible. These may be visible along the hairline and jawline, around the nipple areola, on the skin graft sites as well as in the genital region.

After phalloplasty or vaginoplasty surgery there is often a lack of skin pigmentation and realism. These areas can be enhanced and made to look a lot more realistic.

Realism can be achieved by adding veins, colour, glands, ridges, highlights, and shadows. This can make the process of changing rooms and intimate occasions more relaxing and help your confidence.

Medical tattooing can aid this process of gender reassignment by mimicking the natural feminine or masculine contours of the body by replicating the shape, style and colour of any area of the body. Brows, hairlines, and eye definition can be changed to the shape, style and colour that suits you best. A tweak here and there can make all the difference to how you view your face and body.

The main areas of the body that medical tattooing can help enhance the body for transgender patients are:

Penis: After a phalloplasty the penis can look white without veins, glands, colour and shadows. These can be applied naturally with pigment over a number of treatments (usually between 3 – 4) over a period of 6 months. At the same time, any scarring can be camouflaged into the surrounding skin.

Vaginal scarring can be camouflaged into the surrounding skin, whilst colour can be added to give a level of realism if pigment is lacking.

Forehead scarring can be camouflaged into the surrounding skin.

Nipple/Areola: Scarring can be camouflaged and the colour of the areola changed to look more feminine or masculine.

Brows: These can be tattooed to give a more masculine or feminine overall appearance and to suit any changes that have happened to your facial structure.

Skin Grafts can be camouflaged into the surrounding skin.

Medical tattooing is not painful and anaesthetic can be used for any areas that cause discomfort. Treatments are generally between 45 minutes to 2.5 hours long, with 4 – 8 weeks in between. The healing will usually take 5-7 days for the top layer to dry, formulate a scab and then come off. A further 3-4 weeks is required for the underneath to fully heal, and for the pigment to migrate and blend in.
